Assemblywoman Nily Rozic Announces Funding for New Parent Support Group at Charles B. Wang Community Health Center

Rozic celebrates Maternal Health Awareness Day with a $50,000 State Capital Funding Allocation for Breastfeeding Education Pilot Program

Flushing, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D, WF-Fresh Meadows) visited Charles B. Wang Community Health Center (CBWCHC) today, on Maternal Health Awareness Day, to announce a $50,000 state grant she secured for the center to operate a new parents support group. The program will serve to educate new mothers on the health benefits of breastfeeding through a multi-media campaign that will lead new parents to resources and 1:1 consultations at CBWCHC. The media campaign will reach parents and families through radio programs, newspaper articles, printed bilingual materials, and social media postings composed by expert and clinically trained professionals in both English and Chinese.

“New parents need all the support they can get and this new effort will meet families where they’re at, providing that extra support outside of the traditional health care system,” said Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. “I am so proud to partner with Charles B. Wang–a true pioneer of affordable and culturally competent healthcare–to bring tailored educational resources and programming for new parents and their newborns.”

"We are deeply grateful to Assemblywoman Nily Rozic for her support and commitment to maternal and newborn health in Queens. This grant enables us to expand our vital health education work, reaching more families with crucial information about breastfeeding," said Dr. Hyoseong Nuna Kim, Chief Medical Officer at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. "As both an administrator and pediatrician, I've seen firsthand how education empowers parents to make informed decisions about their children's health. This funding helps us continue our mission of providing culturally responsive health education to our community."

“I want to thank Assemblymember Nily Rozic for securing state funding to support new parents in our community. Nily and I both understand the challenges of raising young children in Queens. It’s important to have a network to support each other and I hope no new parent feels isolated or left behind, said Assemblyman Ron Kim.

“I applaud Assemblywoman Rozic for securing this crucial funding to help new parents in our communities,” said U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens). “As the mom of two school-age children, I know the important role that these types of support groups play, and I’m thrilled that the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center will now have an additional resource to help reach even more families. Thank you Assemblywoman Rozic for working to obtain this money, and thanks to the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center for constantly working to address the health care needs of Queens residents.”

“As a mother of three I know how crucial it is for new parents to have support as they start their families," said Assemblymember Grace Lee. “Thank you to Assemblymember Nily Rozic for securing funding for the New Parents Support Group Program at CBWCHC, providing language accessible resources to the Chinese community so families will have access to important health information.”

“For too many new mothers – especially in immigrant communities – access to quality breastfeeding education and support remains a challenge,” said Councilmember Sandra Ung. “That’s why this support group at CBWCHC is so significant. By providing bilingual and culturally competent resources for mothers in our community this program will educate families who might otherwise feel disconnected from healthcare services. I want to thank Assemblywoman Nily Rozic and the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center for working together on this initiative to support new parents.”

Charles B. Wang Community Health Center offers multilingual health care services to underserved communities throughout six locations in Flushing and Lower Manhattan. The center prides itself in providing high quality, culturally responsive, and affordable medical, dental, and mental health care to thousands as well as health education, social work, and other support services. With three locations in Flushing, today Assemblywoman Nily Rozic visited Charles B. Wang’s newest site which provides Obstetrics & Gynecology services (amongst others) on 40th Road off of College Point Boulevard (131-72 40th Road). This location is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day except Wednesdays when they open at 10 a.m.

This funding marks the first grant allocation announced by Rozic for 2025. Last year, the Assemblywoman closed off the year totaling over $2.5 million dollars in state funding allocations to local schools and community centers for major renovations and vital programming. Rozic’s last community investment was $150,000 for the Lexington School of the Deaf to repair the school’s 54-year-old swimming pool.
