Assemblymember Seawright is so excited to have helped create the opportunity for PS/IS 217 to have a green roof, along with Councilman Ben Kallos and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.
As Principal Beckman and the educators at PS/IS 217 can understand, creating unique learning opportunities for our students is so important, and the green roof will be a great educational space for students to pursue a wide variety of knowledge and interests. While New York City schools are struggling with the many challenges of education in 21st century America, the green roof project at PS/IS 217 will serve as a reminder of the remarkable talents that our students exhibit when equipped with great resources. The green roof also represents the commitment of our students, schools, and leaders to being conscious of the relationship between our society and our natural environment.
We are excited to see the many ways that students interact with the green roof facility to learn more about sustainability, the environment, and hopefully themselves. We look forward to seeing the green roof provide both education and enjoyment to Roosevelt Island students for years to come.
