Newkirk Cares Collaborative
February 29, 2012
The Newkirk Cares Collaborative is a community based group formed in 2011 to engage community members in improving the Newkirk Avenue corridor. Our first initiatives will include the muraling of the Newkirk Plaza passageway, the installation of tree guards along Newkirk Avenue, and the greening of Newkirk Plaza. We were awarded the Love Your Block Grant from the Citizens Committee to make this possible, and will be working in conjunction with the Flatbush Development Corporation and Compost for Brooklyn on these two projects. Ways to get involved: 1. Join our steering committee! The Newkirk Cares Collaborative steering committee is a group of dedicated community members who are working on organizing and designing the greening and muraling initiatives. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. 2. Attend a work day! On March 18, April 15, and May 20, we will be building tree guards along the Newkirk Avenue corridor. Not only will this help protect the trees in our neighborhood, but you will learn about woodworking, taking care of street trees, composting! On June 24th, we will paint a mural in the Newkirk Avenue passageway, on Newkirk Plaza. We need volunteers to help paint and mosaic. Light snack and refreshments will be available throughout the day. Please email Assemblywoman Jacobs or email email@example.com if you have any questions, or if you would like to get involved!
