Statement from Assemblymember Deborah J. Glick on Adoption of SCRIE/DRIE/SCHE/DHE Improvements in State Budget

For years, I have pushed for improvements to SCRIE, DRIE, SCHE, and DHE, including raising the income eligibility threshold to better reflect today’s cost of living. I am thrilled that the enacted state budget includes my proposal to increase the maximum household income eligibility to $75,000. This change will help more seniors and disabled New Yorkers remain in their homes and give peace of mind to many residents who have struggled with rising costs.

These programs are critical affordability programs that help older adults and disabled New Yorkers remain in their homes and communities. But while the cost of living has continued to rise, the maximum household income eligibility threshold for these programs has remained unchanged at $50,000 since 2014.

Over the past twelve years, many New Yorkers who rely on these programs have worried that even modest increases in Social Security or other benefits could put their housing at risk by pushing them over the income limit.

In the coming weeks and months, I will continue to keep the community informed about when and how to apply for these programs and any updates regarding eligibility.
