Public Hearing on Illegal Hotels
Illegal Hotels continue to threaten rent regulated tenants and affordable housing and this Friday, April 27th the New York State Assembly is holding a hearing on the issue.
Although the existing legislation regarding illegal hotels isn't strong enough – this has not stopped real estate industry operators from fighting to roll back the law entirely. It is vital that tenants and affordable housing advocates sign up to speak at this hearing which will begin at 11:30AM at 250 Broadway, Room 1923, 19th Floor, in the NYS Assembly Hearing Room.
Clearly there are forces trying to remove protections from tenants who currently receive legal protection from having unregulated, illegal hotels in their buildings. Please share this information with all of your friends and neighbors and plan to attend if possible.
You need a photo ID to get into the building, and the security line can be long at times, so please plan accordingly. Speakers are allotted 10 minutes each, but are encouraged to join with a group of others to make a panel of shared comments.
Notice of the hearing can be found here.
Thank you for fighting for the rights of rent regulated tenants in New York City.
