Albany, NY – Today, Assemblymember Deborah Glick, announced the passage of A8031, legislation that will encourage the long term success of the Hudson River Park. This legislation ensures inappropriate private development will not take place in the Park, while at the same time providing the Hudson River Park Trust with several financial mechanisms to maintain the upkeep of the Park.

"I have always believed that less development was appropriate for the park, and I am pleased that this legislation strikes a balance between financial support and protecting public space. In particular, I am glad that any sale of the air rights from Pier 40 will directly be used to repair and secure Pier 40's infrastructure: thus ensuring that playing fields utilized by children and adults will continue to exist for generations."

In addition, the Hudson River Park legislation also allows for the Hudson River Park Trust to put a $2 surcharge on every passenger traveling on a commercial passenger vessel with the exception of ferries. This fee could bring in as much as $1.5 Million to the Hudson River Park every year.

Furthermore, the legislation provides for the preservation of historic elements at Pier 54, where the Carapthia arrived with survivors from the Titanic in 1912.

"This is not just New York history, it is world history and it is now secured," stated Assemblymember Glick.

"I am extremely grateful to all of my colleagues who worked extremely hard on this bill and especially to Senator Brad Hoylman, whose tireless efforts on behalf of his community, helped ensure there would be no inappropriate large-scale development in any portion of the Park."
