Assemblymember Deborah J. Glick of the 66th Assembly District in Manhattan responded to the Department of Justice's filing of an amicus brief arguing that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which bans employment discrimination for protected classes, does not apply to sexual orientation:

"Attorney General Sessions continues to make every effort to remake the Department of Justice into the Department of Injustice. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission forbids discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Arguing that this position does not reflect the position of the United States not only threatens the rights of lesbian, gay, and bisexual Americans in the workplace but, when taken with the President's Twitter announcement banning transgender people from military service, makes clear that the administration will take any opportunity to dismantle federal protections for members of the LGBTQ community. If they are successful, there is nothing to stop them from making the same attempts on the rights of other groups who have historically been protected by the Civil Rights Act.

It seems that the federal administration is determined to roll back the clock on our rights. We will continue to fight them every step of the way."
