Assemblymember Steck Presents Grants to Guilderland for Highway Equipment, Park Upgrades

This week, Assemblymember Phil Steck (D-Colonie) presented Guilderland officials with $375,000 in capital grant funding that he helped secure for the town. The funding includes two capital grants: $250,000 for upgrades at DiCaprio Park and Fort Hunter Park and $125,000 for the Town Highway Department to purchase equipment.

“Improving our communities begins with infrastructure,” said Assemblymember Steck. “Whether improving our vital transportation systems or recreation amenities, infrastructure is tantamount to building a better New York. I’m always looking for ways to support our communities and securing funding measures like these grants will continue to be a priority for me.”

The $250,000 grant for DiCaprio Park and Fort Hunter Park will help purchase playground equipment, resurface parking lots and improve basketball courts and sports fields. The $125,000 grant for the Town Highway Department will support the purchase of a mini-excavator and other equipment.

“Assemblymember Phil Steck’s unwavering support for park improvements is key to the Town’s efforts to improve the quality of life of residents. The new playground at DiCaprio Park will provide families with a safe attraction for young children while older siblings are playing soccer and lacrosse. The new additions to Fort Hunter Park, including a playground, small pavilion, and a refurbish playfield and backstop, will greatly enhance enjoyment of this neighborhood park.Assemblymember Steck’s quick securing of funds for a new mini-excavator has enabled the Highway Department to respond to washouts, stormwater damage, and road improvement projects,” said Peter Barber, Guilderland Town Supervisor.

“On behalf of the Town of Guilderland Parks Department, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Assemblymember Steck for providing the Legislative grant that will fund the construction of a new playground at DiCaprio Park, and improvements to the existing playground and new small pavilion at Fort Hunter Park. The new playground and improvements will provide children of all abilities with safe, inclusive, and engaging space to play, explore and grow.Your support is helping us to build a healthier, more vibrant community. We are excited to give people more options to get outside and get moving! These improvements will have a positive impact on the residents for years to come,” said CJ Gallup, Guilderland Director of Parks and Recreation.
