- I had the pleasure of giving the Woodland Hill Montessori School a behind-the scenes look at our Capitol. I had a wonderful time answering great questions from these very inquisitive students.
- In January, I was thrilled to help George T. Jenkins, a 100-year-old Navy veteran of WWII who earned three medals, receive his first government issued photo identification card. Unfortunately, Mr. Jenkins was not issued a birth certificate in 1922, a common scenario for African Americans born in the United States during the 1920’s. Recently, due to the bureaucratic red-tape Mr. Jenkins had difficulty obtaining a photo ID, thereby preventing him from moving into a senior housing complex. With the help of our office and the DMV, Mr. Jenkins now has his first ever government issued ID card and is living comfortably in the same complex as his daughters
- On Feb. 7, I discussed the prevention of youth smoking and improving the health of our community with Capital District Tobacco-Free Communities. As the chair of the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee, I am always looking for ways to improve the health of my constituents through community action and legislation.
- I met with the Raise Up New York Coalition to showcase my support for a $21.25 minimum wage that keeps up with rising costs. The bill would give 2.9 million New Yorkers a $3,300 raise to help cover essential expenses like rent, groceries, and part-time childcare.
- Assemblymember Steck congratulations to Johnny and Owen of Troop 1701 in Latham on becoming Eagle Scouts.
- Assemblymember Steck attended the grand opening for Capital Region BOCES’ Career and Tech Education Center, which is set to offer 25 workforce training programs in eight high-demand career fields.
- Assemblymember Steck read to local children at the Colonie Farmer's Market as part of the William K. Sanford Library's Story Time.
- Assemblymember Steck secured a grant for $25,000 to support the Shaker Heritage Society in honor of its upcoming 50th anniversary. The funding will help bolster several initiatives to increase community engagement and historical education.
- Assemblymember Steck presented Dr. Robert Worden, Executive Director of the John F. Finn Institute, with a ceremonial check for $75,000 to help finance studies of local police departments' use of force and how they investigate violent crimes.
- Assemblymember Steck partnered with the Colonie Senior Services Center to host a Home Safety and Fall Prevention Luncheon.
- Assemblymember Steck joined by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie at the Colonie Senior Service Center to announce a $2 million investment to support the King Thiel II affordable senior housing facility.
- Assemblymember Steck celebrated India's 75th anniversary of independence with the Public Employees Federation Indo-American Committee.
- Assemblymember Steck showed his support for New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) at the Capital Region’s Labor Day parade.
- Assemblymember Steck attended the annual Armenian Picnic at the Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church.
- Assemblymember Steck addressed nurses from Ellis Hospital, Albany Med, Bellevue Woman's Center and Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home at the New York State Nurses Association event at Waters Edge Lighthouse.
- Assemblymember Steck volunteers with the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, the Capital District Area Labor Federation and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York at the Macedonia Baptist Church.
- Assemblymember Steck attended Capital District Drive Electric Week and Sustainability Fair in Schenectady, which is currently the second largest National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) event in the country!
- Assemblymember Steck celebrated the grand opening of the Ronald H. Miller Bike Trail in Menands. The trail is named after Ronald H. Miller, a former economist at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, who served as a trustee on the Menands Village Board. Spanning approximately one-half mile, the bike trail is available for public use and connects the Menands portion of the Town of Colonie with the rest of the Empire State Trail network, which boasts over 750 miles of trails.
- Assemblymember Steck secured $25,000 in state funding for Bring on the Spectrum, a Colonie-based community space and sensory gym that supports neurodiverse individuals in achieving a greater quality of life. The funding will help to provide life skills workshops.
- Assemblymember Steck presenting four Schenectady organizations with grants that he secured to help them fulfill their missions and serve our community members. In total, $125,000 in funds went to the YWCA North Eastern NY to support early learning staff and professional development for their teachers, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady to fund their multimedia program, Schenectady Day Nursery for playground improvements and Schenectady Community Ministries for their urban farming program.
- Assemblymember Steck presented the Colonie Junior Raiders to with more than$1.2 million in funding to improve the Town of Colonie parks including the Michael J. Anson Memorial Park, Sand Creek Road Park, Colonie Mohawk River Park and the West Albany Pocket Park.
- Assemblymember Steck celebrated Diwali and the Hindu New Year with BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.
- Assemblymember Steck joined Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood, the Pride Center of the Capital Region, In Our Own Voices and YWCA of the Greater Capital Region at the Women's March for Abortion Justice Rally at West Capitol Park.
- Assemblymember Steck attended the Shaker Road - Loudonville Fire Department open house with County Legislator Joe O’Brien, and Colonie Town Councilmember Alvin Gamble.
- YouthBuild Schenectady SEAT Center celebrated the graduation of students from years 2019, 2020 and 2021 this month. Assemblymember Steck spoke at the ceremony and highlighted the importance of having multiple pathways for student to succeed in education.
- Assemblymember Steck hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Niskayuna's Avon Crest Park with Town Supervisor Jaime Puccioni and Town Councilmember Bill McPartlon to officially welcome residents to the newly rebuilt tennis and pickleball courts.
- Phil Steck joins local officials for the rededication of the Central Park A-Diamond “Buck Ewing” Field in Schenectady.
