Assemblymember Steck Presents Grant to Bring on the Spectrum for Continued Programming Support
Assemblymember Phil Steck (D-Colonie) proudly presented a $25,000 grant to Bring on the Spectrum (BOTS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting neurodiverse individuals in achieving their fullest potential. The grant, secured through Assemblymember Steck's efforts, will bolster BOTS’ life skills programs, which are essential in promoting independence and enhancing the quality of life for participants.
The funding will support a variety of classes that teach life-skills, including laundry sorting and washing, cooking classes, financial literacy, and appropriate use of social media. These initiatives are designed to equip neurodiverse individuals with the practical skills needed for daily living and long-term success.
“Bring on the Spectrum is doing incredible work that not only aids neurodiverse individuals but also enriches the lives of their families,” said Assemblymember Steck. “I’m honored to continue to support BOTS in their mission to ensure that every person, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to lead a fulfilling life. Programs like these are what make our community a vibrant and inclusive place to live, and I will continue to advocate for resources that support all New Yorkers.”
During the event, Assemblymember Steck had the opportunity to participate in one of the funded programs. Karen DeSorbo, a family and consumer sciences teacher at North Colonie Central School District, led a session on preparing nutritious meals safely – just one example of the many life skills programs offered at BOTS.
“We appreciate the support of Assemblymember Steck,” said Lisa Audi, founder and executive director of BOTS. “There are many day-to-day tasks that neurodiverse individuals are challenged to learn. We account for this with many techniques, including visual instruction, repetition and scaffolding. BOTS is thankful that Assemblymember Steck recognized during his initial visit the needs of our neurodiverse community.”
