Assemblymember Phil Steck (D-Colonie) announced that he welcomed cadets from West Point to Albany on Wednesday, May 1, and helped pass a resolution recognizing the 68^th annual West Point Day (K.330).

“We appreciate both the training given to and the commitment to service installed in the Cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point,” Steck said. “Our nation will be well served by these fine men and women in the future, and we thank them for their willingness to face danger to ensure a more peaceful world.”

Among the cadets was Martino An, a familiar face to the Capital Region. Martino graduated from Niskayuna High School in 2017 and is now part of the West Point class of 2021. He is a team leader at the academy and is studying premed with a concentration in life science.

Steck helped pass a resolution that marks May 1, 2019, as the 68^th annual West Point Day in New York State. The late Assemblymember James T. McNamara, a graduate of the West Point class of 1939, authored the first West Point Day resolution 67 years ago. The Assembly has continued this cherished tradition by honoring West Point cadets and alumni and recognizing the impact they have made on our state and nation’s history each year.

The academy was established on March 16, 1802, on the banks of the Hudson River. Its education and training programs prepare cadets to be driving forces in fighting threats to our nation, and the academy continues to be the country’s premier military higher learning institution.^[1] The West Point campus is not only home to our future leaders, but also welcomes thousands of people from across the world each year to take in the campus’ scenery and learn more about its historical significance.
